Aide Corps (Three times per year at the call of the Chief)

Camel Herders (3rd Tuesday, social at 7:00 p.m., business meeting 8:00 p.m.) We usher, process, guide, and control Novices during Kena Ceremonials. Participate in parades and tow Humphrey, a life-size camel. Assist in Kena functions. Four potluck suppers a year and an annual Christmas Party/Dance---our ladies invited. Director’s Staff (At the call of the Director)

Greeters (1st Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. except July, Aug & Dec) Assist Kena Potentate. This unit greets and welcomes guests, visiting Nobles and Shrine dignitaries who attend social activities, ceremonials, and other official functions. They participate in the temple parades, and in fund raising activities supporting the Shrine and its charitable missions. POC: E. Allen Wade, Director 703-754-9757, or fencemaniac@hotmail.com 

Highlanders (Every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.) The Distinguished Pipes and Drum Marching Unit of Kena Temple. No previous experience necessary. Training classes every Wednesday night starting at 6:00 PM in the Unit Room. Membership dues cover the cost of training sessions. Dues $30 annually. Hillbillys (2nd Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.) During the monthly meetings, the Hillbilly Nobles, Ladies and guests socialize, conduct separate business meetings and then have a potluck dinner following the meetings. The uniform is a bib overall with as many patches as you can stitch on. Participate in parades by riding in our ’52 Dodge truck. Initiation fee $150 (includes first-year dues, shirt, cap & jacket) and $40 annual dues (includes 2 tickets to annual hillbilly dance.) POC: Robert S. Kena 500 (1st Thursday at 7:30 p.m.) Unit of motorized mini corvettes. Currently 22 cars that parade in over 25 events annually. Four potluck dinners with our ladies. For specific information about the unit contact the POC. POC: Jeff St. Onge, Secretary, jeff-st.onge@excite.com  540-752-0220.

Klowns (2nd Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.)

Klowns make kids laugh and smile. There’s no better way to spread joy than to Klown Around. We dress-out for parades and functions at the temple. Dues $6.00. Two dress-outs required. POC: Tony “TJ” LaCava, Director, Kena Klowns. Cell: 571-436-7948, or tonylacava@comcast.net

Legion of Honor (3rd Monday at 7:30 p.m.)

Lead all parades. Present colors at temple meetings. Must have military experience to join (honorable discharge). Work on annual Easter egg hunt. POC: Brian Galusha, Commander, 703-250-2699, or bgalusha@verizon.net

Motor Corps (2nd Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.) If you have any interest in two-wheel vehicles or want to ride a mini-chopper in parades and competitions, we are the fun unit at Kena. POC: Kenneth F. Whitmer, Director, 703-590-6904

Oriental Band (1st and 3rd Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.) The Oriental Band is restarting on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Band Room. First Tuesday will be business and the second Tuesday will be a “training and practice” meeting. Come join us, no experience is needed. . Ritualistic Divan (At the call of the Director) Involved in inducting and obligating new Nobles at Kena’s ceremonials. Elaborate costumes and make up provided by unit. Segway (In start-up phase) Howard Sobel is trying to start a new Segway unit. It will consist of members who are willing to purchase a Segway costing approximately $3K and another estimated $200 for a uniform. Shrine Band (Every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Meet in the Anek.) “Plays so that crippled and burned children can.” Around 15 musicians play and enjoy bringing musical entertainment to Kena at various functions and to many senior centers, retirement facilities and nursing homes with the DC/MD/VA area.
